Look Forward To Death?

Yesterday’s post posed a choice.

The challenge is, we are too afraid to choose, so we talk and think like this:.

“By and large, humans squander their lives with I’m gonna, I will when, soon as, next week, next year, when the kids…, when I retire, soon as the job slows down, this Fall, starting New Year’s Day, blah, blah, blah…”

This is why death is mostly sad, when in reality, it ought to be one of the most glorious times of our lives.

How Many Regrets Are Buried Here?

No one really likes to think about death.

Why?

It’s not like it’s not going to happen.

Here’s a little exercise to get your cranium thinking. Which would you pick and why, if given the choice between these two:

Spiritual health is like physical health.

You get out of it what you put into it.

Sort of like eating your vegetables. We all know we should, but do we?

Pray without ceasing, but do we?

What Makes Life Fun?

Do you have happiness and wellness as a goal?

There’s not much of it out there in the world, if you look closely.

There are pockets of happiness and wellness, and like many things in life, rather elusive.

And yet, we can have them both. All we have to do is count our blessings and quit comparing.

Disney Pixar Movies Are Masterpieces

We watched the new Disney-Pixar movie, UP many months ago. At the time, my son and I for only the second time. My wife, her first.

In the beginning scenes, you see the life of Mr. Frederickson and his wife Ellie.

There is one scene, I knew if I looked over at Cheryl, she’d be looking over at me. Only people changed by infertility would be touched in a profound way during that scene.

The Frederickson’s couldn’t become parents.

Why be thankful?

Why not?

Why not be thankful? I mean, for everything.

Today, Good Friday, of all days, we have a great opportunity to be thankful.

In fact, maybe we could even try to look at everyday as Good Friday.

Perhaps these three men already do:

And so is every other day.

Today’s preparations include the usual:

• Wake up early
• On my knees in prayer
• Coffee
• Check email
• LinkedIn, Twitter, You Tube, Facebook checks
• Write five blogs
• Practice the first reading

We leave in less than an hour, and by 9:00AM, I’ll be standing in front of nearly 1,500 Parishioners at Holy Family Catholic Church.

As a Lector (reader), I will speak God’s Holy Word to them. It’s over in less than two minutes.

It may be the only scripture they hear all week.

Can you comprehend this?

All week.

This is all they’ll get.

Sunday is what you make it.

And so is every moment of every day.

Many people I know, and read about, deny themselves the divine providence of God’s Love simply because they see some Christians who appear to be hypocrites.

To this I have a gut reaction.

Do you stop driving your car because some drivers are reckless?
