Simplicity is the ultimate life hack.

In the absence of a simplicity teacher before we turn 18, we are destined to never adapt or to take forever to adapt.

Our life gets too complicated and we get overwhelmed and stressed out by our inability to simplify.

Son, i’m still learning and honing – and you’ve benefitted from my consistent teaching and observation.

Remember what you observed while we worked in Glacier. One small day-hike pack for everything i need all Summer.

He’s dying with Grace

This is the last Sanibel sunset photo from our week-long trip. Was aware that Joel’s Sun might set before we returned to Orlando.

He’s dying with Grace.

Joel is the one who suggested our after-daycare hug in 2003.

We just concluded this tradition after Chapin’s final day in High School.

Today would be a perfect day to visit and thank him in person (again) – had the glorious opportunity to thank him six months ago when Disney Institute (DI) colleagues gathered after the funeral of another beloved DI colleague, 51-year old Sara.

Joel cried happy tears when i told him we were finishing a 16-year tradition, thanks to his simple idea.

Walt hated sequels

Disney is as Disney does. Yesterday.
Smallest theater i’ve ever experienced. Eleven rows of 5 seats each.
Bottom of receipt shows yesterday’s date. Just a moment in time.

Walt hated sequels.

“You can’t top pigs with pigs”, he said after a successful 1934 release of The Three Little Pigs (TTLP).

There were three sequels to TTLP, none of which ever topped the original.

It’s fascinating to me to see how our cultural values have morphed into embracing sequels – Toy Story has produced three.

Frozen 2 comes out November 22, 2019.

Note: perhaps what’s changed is we now have greater confidence in our ability to build on a blockbuster release.

Surprise and delight

Surprise and delight never gets old.

To receive more than you expect creates the wow factor.

Same thing happens when you give more than you expect, usually.

Sometimes an exception occurs and your extra giving goes unnoticed or unappreciated.

Please don’t allow rainy weather to ruin your enthusiasm for the sun.

Silent prayers

Yesterday on Twitter. Being present is a form of meditation.

Silent prayers.

While it may seem like i’ve abandoned our traditional dinner-time prayer, that’s not true.

What’s true is they aren’t vocalized.

That’s the only difference.

Why not vocalize?

Taking the risk that it will sit better with our Guests this week.

It could be a missed opportunity.

It could also be the perfect approach.
