Read or proclaim?

This photo is from the water station for the post here. Pictured is me trying unsuccessfully to capture the emotion from the exact spot where i could have been mauled or killed by a Grizzly bear, a few hours earlier. Convinced an instinctively zealot idea left me without a scratch.

Read or proclaim?

What?

Today, the second Sunday of Advent, i’m privileged to be the first Lector at 8:45 AM Mass.

Interesting, to me anyway, to realize it’s been six months since i’ve “done a reading”.

So, in two hours there’s the choice every Lector gets when they’re scheduled, to “do the reading” or proclaim God’s Holy Word.

You can see where this is going.

There’s that zealot raising his enthusiastic head again.

Why?

For the old me who wondered why, the answer is obvious:

Everyone is different and has their own reasons. Could be respect, conformity, fear, ego, rebellion, enthusiasm and so on. No end to the reasons.

But i like the way enthusiasm fits.

O Holy Night

Beach Christmas card
Card in a Sanibel Island (Florida) Hardware store.

To everyone who believes in the mystery of Faith, may you find what you need to live with peace and contentment.

Peace with who you are.

Content with what you have.

For me, Christmas Eve signifies the birth of a Savior.

Meanwhile, our Church’s Fall Festival begins today, a Thursday, October 24, 2019 – think small town carnival with a Ferris wheel, etc.

Do you take it for granted?

Yesterday in Philadelphia.

Do you take your blessings for granted?

Why?

Because taking our blessings for granted robs us of gratitude which robs us of joy.

From the photo above, a few easy-to-think-of blessings:

  • Able to bend down pain-free
  • The gift of eyesight
  • Having a life partner to want to send flowers to
  • Being able to notice small things (the only daisies i saw all day)
  • Having 40+ year college friends to visit annually
  • Affordable airfare
  • A great camera on a great phone
  • A sunny, warm, mid-October day
  • A Philly bike-rental tour business
  • A safe city
  • A safe Country
  • Religious/worship freedom
  • A 60-year old body that can easily walk, bike, and function well
  • Etc, etc

A lifetime of memories

Three cousins on a life journey.

A lifetime of memories can be stimulated from a single photo like the one here.

A lifetime of gratitude can be stimulated from a single morning.

How?

Waking up and being grateful for the gift of another day.

Like right now.

Humble beginnings is a common Family story

Using this photo signifies the photo upload issue continues. Made it through today’s first two posts without any issues.
Home back porch expansion
Our home was designed and built with two small steps down to a 10′ x 10′ concrete pad for a back porch. No roof. No money for more than this. i used irrigation pipes to “draw” our expansion plans.
back porch home expansion
We added a 44′ x 30′ concrete pad in 2000, eight years after our home was built…15′ roof covered and another 15′ screened in.

This photo is an experiment to see if it would work and it did so i’m leaving it. All of this started with a cartoon Mouse in 1928.

Humble beginnings is a common Family story.

Today is the third Sunday of Lent.

Jesus’s story is bathed in humility.

From being born in a stable…to the Savior of the World?
