Ignore the side effects

Long, uphill hikes are metaphors for life. So are stunning views and wonderful hiking partners.

Ignore the negative side effects of a super-busy pace?

Why?

There must be powerful reasons, right?

Powerful enough to ignore long-term outcomes?

(never)

How is that a long-term and vibrant emotional strategy?

It’s not.

You clearly understand this. Well done.

Regret is always possible to reverse. When your ability to forgive yourself, surrender to things you cannot control, and live with gratitude that you can both forgive and surrender, you are free to move forward.

The key to it all is having a willing heart that is open to personal transformation.

If you think forgiveness and surrender are hard to sustain over decades of living, imagine trying to cram for personal transformation after decades of neglect.

Slow and steady wins the race. The long way is the shortcut.

Some notes stay visible for a year

This note moved from the office to the closet where it stayed for about a year. As of today the only version of this note is this photograph.

Some notes stay visible for a year.

Roughly 90% of the time i place a date on a note.

Why?

Dates add hints/clues for recall and context.

Without a date for Steve’s quote, there’s no context for why it was written, where it was discovered, or what season in life was the motivation to write it down.

Time slips away without our permission

i will never regret carrying all over the world something our Son cherishes. Never. Stitch in Glacier National Park (Montana) backcountry.

Time slips away without our permission.

Your move.

Go.

Watch what happens

The neighbor behind us has a pond. Pictured here is the camera looking through his yard to our backyard.
One half mile later, dramatic change that if you’re a few minutes late to take a look, you miss the brilliants reds and oranges.
Nearly two miles and 30 minutes from the first photos, the sun is about to pierce the horizon.

Watch what happens.

What?

Watch what happens to the sky the first 30 minutes or so of a brand new day.

What a luxury to be outside the first 30 daylight minutes of a gloriously young day.

Old as the sea, new as the morning.

Live like you mean it.

Start on your knees

Amazing. Grace. The gift of another day.

Start on your knees.

Why?

Why wouldn’t you?

Seriously.

Think about it.

Seriously, i cannot imagine having a life that is so busy and/or unfocused that i couldn’t start on my knees.

To be clear, this was an evolution, a transformation, to create this habit after becoming a dad in 2000.
