The uppity UP’s

UP is my favorite Pixar movie.

Every Pixar release is cause for childlike excited anticipation.

Elemental a few days ago has us reflecting on some brilliant life insights.

The animation is stunning, but maybe stunning animation is so expected that it doesn’t deliver the same wow-factor. Hard to say.

On a side note, looking forward to hiking with Ember and Wade.

Forgive

Four adults on a golf cart on the street
A photo like this will never happen again. Forgive. And never forget what you learned.

The three-day Memorial Day weekend is history.

Reflected on how we used to covet three day weekends.

At Disney, “We work while others play.”

For me, a lifetime of working holidays, weekends, nights, turnaround shifts.

Now, weirdly, every week is a seven-day weekend.

Working hard to not feel guilty saying that.

Slow death?

Mickey Mouse head shaped cinnamon roll
A Cast Member stands outside the Main Street Bakery holding this.

If you ever want me to meet my demise, put me in a room with unlimited Cinnamon Buns and ice-cold milk.

i will eat them until finally exploding.

True story.

Note: Please don’t test this theory.

Learn from limitations

West Coast ‘Team Disney’ building through a fence from the sidewalk.
Also from a sidewalk, but no fence.

Learn from your limitations.

Walt Disney, his vision, and his Disneyland implementation came as a first step.

Similar to writing my/your first book. You learn from the first milestone to make the second milestone more focused.

If Walt Disney World was a poster, Disneyland is a postage stamp.

This is no disrespect to Disneyland. This is a fact. Walt Disney World’s original size was 27,443 acres versus 160 original Disneyland acres.

The biggest surprises

mountains
The danger of falling, or Grizzly Bear (and more rarely, Mountain Lion) attacks makes this place special in a way your local streets will never (hopefully) replicate.

The biggest surprises:

  • The palpable fear
  • The palpable tension
  • The intentional disruption
  • The misinformation
  • The accusations
  • The name-calling/labeling

Writing like you mean it describes my goal of sharing (ideally) short and pithy daily experience with a life insight – for our son, now in college.

It is not lost on me that my days are numbered. It is a driving reason why i have no room in my heart for hate, anger, impatience.

WWjD.
