Post Op Day 2, spirit

Father and son at high school graduation
Sight let’s you instantly reminisce.

Patience and surrender is an invisible 401k plan.

dad

This morning is world-class leaning into discomfort from “doing nothing but sitting inside all day”. And also knowing this is a two-week minimum goal.

Making a healthy 401k spiritual withdrawal to carry me through the next two weeks.

My most recent two decades have helped me hone patience and surrender.

Huh?

While not perfect, there is a self-proclaimed A+ gratitude grade. Leaning into discomfort is my comfort zone.

Endless reps improving patience.

Endless reps improving surrender.

Keep in mind i’ve already invested four weeks fighting intense feelings of impatience and lack of control.

You know why i’m able to patiently navigate this potential life-altering blindness?

From the current emotional / spiritual withdrawals from my spiritual investment accounts.

There is plenty of patience and surrender from decades of doubling – the magic of compound interest.

One of the best things i stumbled into being great at is counting my blessings.

dad

Counting your blessings is technically creativity.

You brainstorm all the ways your “unfortunate situation” could be worse.

Once you start listing a bunch of ways your situation could be worse, far worse even, you regain being present and slay panic.

Was hoping to be on a plane to Montana in six days.

What if the eye regression happened in Glacier?

What if i had to fly home immediately and try to secure emergency surgery?

What if emergency retina detachment repair surgery needed to happen Immediately in Montana? Without being able to fly for two months, how would i (and Cheryl) get home?

What would be the insurance ramifications for out of state and an out of network physician?

Cancel it all?

Family hiking g in mountains
The two other parents here (besides Cheryl and me) are returning this year. But this year (2023) it’s gonna be late September, not late July. We are bundled up because it can be cold and windy in late July.

Plan for the worst. Hope for the best.

dad

You heard me a month ago say that i thought worst case i’ll permanently lose sight in one eye.

Consequently, i wrote off the rest of the 2023 GNP Summer season. For me this turned a record-setting three-month GNP Summer into a one-month Summer.

Yes, and…

While i cancelled almost all accommodations, i didn’t cancel all of them.

Why?

Hoping for the best.

So here we are.

Eye sight is remarkably better than just a week ago.

Can envision me and Cheryl back on a Montana-bound plane.
