Problem or opportunity?

Problem: What do you do when first option is canned, and an honest and convenient plan B is also canned?
  • Plan C is nearby but i must turn my head 180 degrees. Piegan?
  • Decided that Piegan, while physically doable, would take too long to return safely to the car by 5:00 PM. Sat at this vantage point for longer than normal because i had nowhere to go but down.
  • Since i wasn’t ready to go down, i found a wonderful vantage spot and sat quietly and drank it all in. Unrushed. Overwhelmed by the stillness.
  • Siyeh Pass, middle saddle. This is where we saw the Grizzly and cub.
  • Looking Northeast.
  • Stunningly different layers on the East side. The East side has been closed since Covid broke out.
  • Deserves future attention.
  • The Eastern geography extends North towards Canada.
  • R-L: Reynolds 9,156′, Fusillade 8,750′, Jackson 10,052′.

  • Zooming out for context.
  • Hello Haystack Butte. Lovely from the West side looking East.
  • Howdy Garden Wall. A few days ago you were covered in snow and i enjoyed that from atop Haystack.
  • Mountain Ash berries are almost deep red.
  • Classic and clear: Danger, keep out.
  • Mt Oberlin summit is the highest point on what appears flat.
  • Oberlin’s shadow on Pollock says the sun is setting soon.
  • Have never seen sunset from Oberlin. Changing that right now.

Your emotions know the score

Juxtapositions are cool.
  • Hidden Mickey on the path to Piegan Mountain.
  • Piegan Mountain wasn’t my plan today. Wind, cold, and some trail snow had me call off Pollock summit and Bishops Cap reconnaissance.
  • Pollock Mountain with enough snow on rock to make an easy no-go call.
  • Piegan Mountain, however, is an easier summit. Even though i’ve never been, am confident i can safely summit.
  • Pollock Mountain from Piegan’s ascent.
  • Seeing down into the Western side of Logan Pass is remarkable. Heaven’s Peak left-center horizon.
  • My executive coaching clients are challenged to laugh out loud at work. A lot.
  • It’s ok to crack yourself up.
  • Looking at the Pollock-Piegan saddle.
  • Looking at the Piegan summit…well, at least the direction of the summit. The summit is outta sight.
  • Subtle but noticeable if you are present. What? An animal bed, probably Mountain Goat or Big Horn Sheep.

Another first with Haystack

  • Spent nearly three hours on the summit.
  • A unique angle to capture Heaven’s Peak.
  • Mt Cannon. Cannon and Clements share a saddle called Birdwoman Falls pass.

  • Left middle edge is Granite Park Chalet, blending in like a chameleon.
  • Left top is Bishops Cap. Right top is Pollock Mountain. You get to Bishops Cap from Pollock’s summit.
