Many Americans are killing themselves with poor personal responsibility habits

Bertrand Russell quote
Life is full of things we don’t understand. Some of them have answers, but we must decide for ourselves.

The tragic events in Las Vegas yesterday have many people jumping on a (predictable) bandwagon for how America needs to change.

Two thoughts:

  1. Beat your drums all day, every day instead of waiting for tragedy.
  2. Clean up your own yard first before proclaiming your neighbor’s yard is a mess.

Many Americans are killing themselves with poor personal responsibility habits.

Here’s how to test if you’re judgemental or not

inconsiderate car parking
Do unto others? Do not judge.

Do unto others?

Do not judge.

As we were leaving last night’s College Admissions presentation at the High School, we spotted this.

First thought is, “What a jerk the car on the left is.”

Right?

That would be judging. No?

So don’t fall prey to weakness.

Here’s how to test if you’re judgemental or not.

Ask, “What if the car on the right parked after the left car parked and made a conscious choice to exit out the passenger side?”

As one of the first arrivals to the 7pm meeting, we saw a few parents and students arrive after the session started.

The pressures and choices of daily living can be stressful and influence our decisions.

Hate, shame, judgment, ridicule, exclusion, stereotyping

Glacier National Park creek bed
Random pic from 2016…a creek bed.

Hate, shame, judgment, ridicule, exclusion, stereotyping.

When i think of these, i ask myself, “Do i carry any of them, even in small quantities, with me in daily life?”

If any of these describe, even remotely, my thoughts on any given day, there’s a good chance i’m not embracing Love as it is meant to be.

Love has no conditions.

That’s an almost impossible concept to comprehend.

Teach, it changes everything

Teaching slogan
We are either part of the solution or part of the problem.

Song lyrics that degrade the relationship between two “different” races do nothing but perpetuate old, inaccurate, or presently untrue stereotypes.

When every song on an album contains explicit lyrics, and the songs promote how one race is responsible for the suppression of another race, are the words valid?

We talked last night about the paradox of whites holding blacks in slavery. And how many still hold onto this as a battle cry.

i asked my companion, “Why isn’t anyone celebrating that whites set the slaves free?”

While one group of “whites” condoned slavery, another group of “whites” fought and died to set them free.

What if the songs spoke of gratitude instead of hatred and disgust?

If the phone doesn’t ring, look in the mirror

Medical pediatric doctor office visit app
Yesterday in Allergist’s waiting room, a TV piece on a new app letting you visit with a board certified pediatrician via smartphone.

Ever pray when you wonder why you don’t hear from family and close friends for a long time.

Do you pray that they understand when they are feeling the same way, that they, and you, realize that someone has to go first.

In the absence of deciding who’s responsible for initiating calls, let’s assume neither has enough interest or time to be the leader.

But almost everyone has time to be the follower.
