2024’s final week, spirit

Mom and young son
Christmas Day, 2005.

i love self-discovery.

Curiosity is a superpower for kids.

i love being a kid.

i love curiosity.

i love when curiosity pays untold dividends.

Cures to incurable things.

Finding unthinkable ways to solve unsolvable challenges.

Discovering you’ve learned enough to do something as good as, or better than, world reknowned subject matter experts.

Long before Ted Lasso

Sound plate with cookies that says just believe
The hit show Ted Lasso features a hand written sign “Believe“ over the coach’s office door. The hyperlinked video is three minutes long, but you can stop after two.

Belief is in the eye of the beholder.

Ain’t that right Ted (Lasso)?

We fight over ownership

Red pouch label Going The Extra Inch tool kit
The Keynote is a month away. Had a client call with the conference decision makers and organizers. They had seen the TED talk, “Why going the extra mile is a flawed concept, and what to do instead.“

What if we over-focused on fighting for what we agree on?

i didn’t invent exceeding expectations.

Yet as far as i know, my claim to fame is making “Go The Extra Inch” a household name.

At this point in my career it doesn’t matter where the phrase came from.

That is peace.

That is contentment.

Small talk, holiday version, spirit

Bob Dylan movie screenshot
Became a Dylan fan a few years ago. We listened to “Blood on the Tracks” album descending from Sperry Chalet. This was the first time i ever played music while hiking in Glacier. Ps. Played from iPhone speaker, tucked in my back pocket.

A complete unknown.

Reminds me of the Nativity.

Some Shepard boy is born. Literally no one knows about it.

Until later.

A complete unknown.

A nobody.

On a bed of straw.

Happy winter 2024, spirit

Winter began one day ago. Let’s think about how we traditionally spend our cold, “gloomy” winters…

Ever think of yourself as a Priest, Pastor, Rabbi, Shaman, etc?

If yes, why?

If no, why?

Let’s assume a few things:

  1. Priests, Pastors, Rabbis, Shamans, etc serve others
  2. Serving others is a huge responsibility
  3. Serving others should never trump serving yourself
  4. Serving yourself is never selfish
  5. Taking care of yourself allows you to take care of others

We become what we think about.

Intentionally or unintentionally.

Can you imagine the difference between the two approaches?
