Profoundly simple

flipchart
The time-tested meeting architecture on the left. Disney Institute’s additional layer, from our fanatical habit of over-focusing on the same things others under-focus on or ignore.
Handwritten notes
Sitting in the back of a Disney Institute class while my co-facilitator was leading the discussion, an idea popped in my head. If i don’t immediately write it down, it gets lost forever. Only later do i have time to evaluate if the scribbled idea has merit.
Five flip chart pages on the wall
Have never seen Disney Institute break down the five “obvious and universal business pillars”. Nor have i ever seen them (remember, i was at Disney 1982-2014) articulate 19 organizational blueprints that dovetail into the five common-sense organizational pillars.
Disney's creativity class draw Mickey Mouse result
Organizational creativity requires parameters. The paradox of “think outside the box”. Drawing Mickey Mouse nails this insight. Before i recognized the the insight from this ‘standard’ activity, none of my Disney Institute colleagues used “Draw Mickey” to hit the “think inside the box” bullseye.

Profoundly simple.

Simply profound.

With our spirit: Faith, Hope, and Love.

With our work: A clear, concise, and compelling vision.

Happy present January moment

6-second video: Biked to Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Locked my bicycle to the fence across from Space Mountain (and Tron). Walked across World Drive to Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

A mid-day Dole Whip in Adventureland never hurt anyone.

i never want Lee Cockerell to forget how much he influenced my life.

Dan Cockerell, Lee’s son, was an unintentional ice-breaker for Lee and me. Dan was a Guest Speaker at Disney Institute when i was the “SME” (Subject Matter Expert) for Disney’s Approach to Leadership Excellence.

Lee, many years later, introduced me to Jody Maberry.

Jody helped me record 100 podcast episodes of “If Disney Ran Your Life’.

Everyone needs to watch this

disney customer service keynote speaker
Disney Customer Service Keynote Speaker. Yeah, that’s me.

You’re entire team needs to watch this before we get started.

Why?

If you need an explanation, you will never understand. Likely not deep in your heart anyway. Maybe intellectually, but not deep in your organization’s heart. And that’s exactly what you need (forever).

In Disney’s spirit

Disney leaders at a January 2025 reunion
L-R: Rick Allen, the organizer. Kim and Sheryl.

Working (serving) in Disney Leadership was (is) a heaven and hell juxtaposition.

Heaven is in the Disney Mission to serve.

Hell is in the work and sacrifice it often takes to operate at the highest level all day, every day, day after day, for an entire career.

And like my prolific daily blogging, there is never a day off.

Heaven is in the team that works together to create Magic.

Hell is in the relentless public expectation for ‘perfection’.

Ps. Thank goodness for the concept of Onstage and Backstage.

Disney retired and active

Disney leadership reunion
Last night at Celebration’s Town Tavern. Mostly Resort executives, present and retired.

Retired Disney.

Active Disney.

Executive, senior, middle, and front line.

Doesn’t matter.

Everyone is cut from the same cloth.

The cloth of Walt Disney excellence.
