Church is every step

  • Severe drought? Metaphorically for this post, it’s the closest photo from the plane-ride photos that themes with a pool. 
  • Minutes after arriving home yesterday.

Yesterday’s seven-hour flight reminded me that jumping in the pool first thing upon arriving home is a Church-moment. 

It is a Church-moment just for me. 

Jesus retreated into the mountains to think, prioritize, and plan. 

In the absence of mountains, a pool will do.

Annoyingly patient

  • Logan Pass arrival. Miraculously, and easily, found open parking spot. 
  • Patiently waited for weather to warm, wind to settle down (never any guarantee). Lunch was easy using the JetBoil. 
  • Finally caved from being patient. Hit the trail three hours after simply hanging out at Logan Pass. Actually leaned towards not hiking at all. Then the fitness test idea surfaced.

So amazingly glad to initiate a fitness test. Surprised the heck out of myself. A high level of contentedness i never saw coming.

One match fire

  • October 3 hike. Eleven miles and 8.5 hours in backcountry. 
  • Looking left as we climb to Piegan Pass. 
  • Looking Northeast from the Pass.
  • Looking North from the Pass.
  • Remnants of the former Bishops Cap Glacier.

As a young teenager, was taught to (obsessively?) build a one-match fire. 

A simple vision: you may one day find yourself in a survival situation where a fire is the only thing that will keep you alive overnight. 

Plan for worst case scenario, and, you only have one match. The fire has to start before the match goes out or you could die.

Life or death situation. 

It has to succeed. 

You don’t get a second chance.

Zealot?

Let’s hope so.

From the mouth of babes

  • Restaurant wait times can kill some people. 
  • Seniors. You know how they act. Sheez. At 62, you can buy a lifetime National Park pass. So on WDW’s 50th birthday, i did. 
  • Opted for cooked breakfast over PBJ sandwiches. Jody Maberry on right.

Hiking down from Reynolds Catwalk we heard two six-year olds say:

We are going to be Besties forever, even when we’re dirt.

Need to remember this for Valentine’s Day.
