Change has two sides

This view required a photo before proceeding.
  • Zooming out for context.
  • Hello Haystack Butte. Lovely from the West side looking East.
  • Howdy Garden Wall. A few days ago you were covered in snow and i enjoyed that from atop Haystack.
  • Mountain Ash berries are almost deep red.
  • Classic and clear: Danger, keep out.
  • Mt Oberlin summit is the highest point on what appears flat.
  • Oberlin’s shadow on Pollock says the sun is setting soon.
  • Have never seen sunset from Oberlin. Changing that right now.

Change is the only way we grow. Fear of change shackles us.

Your emotions know the score

mountains
Juxtapositions are cool.
  • Hidden Mickey on the path to Piegan Mountain.
  • Piegan Mountain wasn’t my plan today. Wind, cold, and some trail snow had me call off Pollock summit and Bishops Cap reconnaissance.
  • Pollock Mountain with enough snow on rock to make an easy no-go call.
  • Piegan Mountain, however, is an easier summit. Even though i’ve never been, am confident i can safely summit.
  • Pollock Mountain from Piegan’s ascent.
  • Seeing down into the Western side of Logan Pass is remarkable. Heaven’s Peak left-center horizon.
  • My executive coaching clients are challenged to laugh out loud at work. A lot.
  • It’s ok to crack yourself up.
  • Looking at the Pollock-Piegan saddle.
  • Looking at the Piegan summit…well, at least the direction of the summit. The summit is outta sight.
  • Subtle but noticeable if you are present. What? An animal bed, probably Mountain Goat or Big Horn Sheep.

Are the daily wins and daily losses appropriate to lead you to the future you envision for yourself?

Another first with Haystack

mountains
From Haystack Butte’s summit, Going-to-the-Sun Road. Logan Pass area.
  • Heaven’s Peak behind Baby Yoda, from summit.
  • Wilden Lightfoot is one cool and traveling dude.
  • Almost city park-like except without the city.
  • Oberlin and Reynolds behind BY.
  • Just some context from the far end of Haystack’s summit.
  • Spent nearly three hours on the summit.
  • A unique angle to capture Heaven’s Peak.
  • Mt Cannon. Cannon and Clements share a saddle called Birdwoman Falls pass.
  • Just a moment. Thinking, dreaming, gazing.
  • Left middle edge is Granite Park Chalet, blending in like a chameleon.
  • Left top is Bishops Cap. Right top is Pollock Mountain. You get to Bishops Cap from Pollock’s summit.

Western: To understand the workings of the Universe, we must first understand the workings of a blade of grass.

Eastern: To understand the workings of a blade grass, you must first understand the workings of the Universe.

Act your age

three hikers in the mountains
The day continues to warm. i’m down to four layers.
  • East of Logan Pass, looking towards the St Mary Valley.
  • Mesmerizing, to me.
  • Clements Mountain. Oberlin is to Clements’ right.
  • L-R: Mt Reynolds, Clements Mountain.
  • Having some fun.
  • Back to traditional, act your age photos.
  • Back to not-acting-your-age photos. Most hikers got a kick out of this state change.

Asked myself, what’s stopping you from starting every day on your knees for two minutes of prayer? Too busy to spare a single minute? You’re kidding right?

Wait, you got a signal?

two guys by a lake
Djuan receiving a happy birthday call at Wild Goose Island.
  • Before giving up entirely on Logan Pass, we hiked Rim Rock – the beginning 600 meters with the safety cable.
  • While it wasn’t snowing, it was still freezing.
  • Mt Oberlin, our intended summit destination behind us. The sign states we are at 6,646′. Oberlin is 8,200′.
  • Back down to 3,100′ at Lake McDonald, on our way back to West Glacier Motel.

Ultimately, life is a single-player game. You are responsible for all of it.
