The vicious circle of deflecting responsibility

Nature teaches us to adapt and overcome, and blossom

When someone else changes, then things will change for me.

But this is never going to happen.

The only way to deal with this is to let it go.

Letting go may be the hardest, and best, thing we ever learn to do.

Should religion satisfy our longing for community and challenge?

Is it possible that many of us spend our waking hours unsure of who we are and where we belong?

And that we all long for a grand challenge that makes our heart race with a sense of purpose?

Taking a moment to thank you for being a part of Mid Life Celebration’s five blogs.

Hope it feels like home, and like an exciting adventure into the second half of our purpose-driven life.

What I could have asked the cab driver as conversation turned to how much he’s bothered by his fellow Catholics attending only Easter and Christmas Masses.

“Can you change that?”, I asked, trying not to smirk.

“No”, he said.

What if I had asked, “Does thinking that way make you feel like a better Catholic?”

Have purposely avoided all media exposure from this past week – since Sandy Hook Elementary School made world news. Why? Four reasons:

  1. I never (ever) want to know the name of the killer – it gains me us nothing
  2. The world is full of horrific, tragic events – every. single. day.
  3. Compassion fatigue from #2
  4. The worry that too soon, our Connecticut wakeup call simply becomes an annual day of remembrance
