Happy 58th birthday brother Howard

Glacier Park hikes
College buddy Howard Doran hiking to Grinnell Glacier last Summer, 2017. We almost walked into the Big Horn Sheep you see here.

The only two humans at Grinnell Glacier overlook at 7:30AM, Labor Day weekend.

Glacier Park hikes
Yeah, we thought some deep thoughts. It was impossible not to.

Hiking up to Grinnell Glacier overlook, from Granite Park Chalet, after a quick breakfast (peanut butter and jelly sandwich).

Glacier Park hikes
On the deck of Granite Park Chalet, just outside our room…Howard makes friends easily.

Glacier Park hikes
Highline Trail from Logan Pass to Granite Park Chalet is 7.5 miles…we have “Granite” in sight.

Glacier Park hikes
About four miles into our hike, Howard is doing what Howard does – make people smile as he takes a photo of the entire hiking party.

Glacier Park hikes
Howard reminds me of a Disney Cast Member – assertively friendly.

Glacier Park hikes
We had barely begun our hike when we were confronted by wildlife.

Glacier Park hikes
To say the place is beautiful is to understate the reality.

Grinnell Glacier and our lunch stop for the day. More Magical moments initiated and created by Howard.

Happy 60th 58th birthday brother Howard.

This post happened because i wanted to text a (single, specific) photo to Howard yesterday for his birthday (i don’t like to use Facebook for birthday wishes).

Looking for that specific photo, i got caught up in many other nice photos of Howard in action.

Long story longer, i posted 15 photos on the Facebook feed and tagged Howard creating a much different message than the typical Facebook-provided-happy-birthday-wish (so uninspiring, to me).

From that, i decided to use 13 of them here today.

True story.

Diet coke, no ice please

Disney Luggage Tag
Disney Luggage Tag, and business phone.

She sat next to me on the flight from Charlotte to Little Rock.

She asked if she could have the whole can of diet coke but was denied.

When it was my turn to order a drink i asked for diet coke, no ice.

After the flight attendant was finished with our row, i gave her my drink.

Be helpful when you can.

Have fun when you can.

Check and check.

Missing Sunday Mass (again)

Bob Iger time magazine
Stumbled upon this article yesterday on LinkedIn. We’ve earned another amazing business award.

Missing Sunday Mass (again).

Catching a Lyft in an hour for Orlando International Airport.

Heading north (Charlotte) and then west (Littel Rock).

Delivering a Disney Keynote Speech tomorrow morning.

So yeah, preaching the Gospel according to Walt.

Finding solace knowing every step we take is “church”.

It matters little to walk to do the preaching if not the walking is the preaching. – unknown

Three-thousand, four-hundred, sixty-nine

Catholic Priest using iPhone
Interestingly enough, i have spent many mornings writing on an iPhone.

The ability to write five daily, differently-themed blogs comes from somewhere.

But i honestly don’t know from where.

Maybe God.

Wherever it comes from, it’s been 9.5 years (three-thousand, four-hundred, sixty-nine consecutive days). (this includes two leap year days – Feb 29)

Grateful for how it didn’t turn out

Randy had no idea this was coming. It was cool to experience the delightful surprise vicariously through him.

Two yutes having a great morning.

From the Idaho-Washington border (where i went to college), it was a six-hour drive across Washington State to get to Seattle. Then we began heading south to Los Angeles.

We drove down highway 101, the Pacific Coast Highway, most of the way, until it made sense to get on I-5. Our destination was my cousin’s relative’s house.

After spending a day or two there, we hit the road again for home (Pennsylvania).

In a thing called a phone booth, we called home on Christmas day from somewhere in the middle of nowhere Texas on I-10.

It’s kind of a miracle we made home safely, considering what we did in the car all those long hours of driving.

Grateful for how it didn’t turn out.
