Got the first choice accommodation

Granite Park Chalet availability
This availability disappeared within 24 hours, and i got one of these dates because i over-focus on the details others under-focus on or ignore.

Got the first choice accommodation.

Luck favors the prepared.

Luck also favors the organized.

And sometimes luck is serendipitous. Our rain run was palatable because the rain is light, not torrential.

There are 277 requests ahead of you

Granite Park Chalet request
The reservation system overload crash ate up two hours of the day yesterday.

There are 277 requests ahead of you.

This is music to my ears.

Last year it was 700.

Tenacity to keep refreshing the reservation request screen paid off as many hopeful people abandoned their futile efforts.

After 130 minutes of constant screen refreshing, paydirt.

Fingers crossed.

Glacier National Park video with Disney’s Soarin’ soundtrack

Inspiration is everywhere.

Glacier National Park video with Disney’s Soarin’ soundtrack.

While the past few days have been focused on the last time i will (maybe) experience end of the year “holidays”, it’s been inspiring to think about getting a bonus Summer (past June 8) and spending the entire Summer in Glacier.

Glacier is a spiritual place.

Mostly because it’s wild.

And yet, it’s remarkably accessible if you can walk up hill and down hill.

Happy 58th birthday brother Howard

Glacier Park hikes
College buddy Howard Doran hiking to Grinnell Glacier last Summer, 2017. We almost walked into the Big Horn Sheep you see here.

Yeah, we thought some deep thoughts. It was impossible not to.

On the deck of Granite Park Chalet, just outside our room…Howard makes friends easily.

Highline Trail from Logan Pass to Granite Park Chalet is 7.5 miles…we have “Granite” in sight.

Glacier Park hikes
About four miles into our hike, Howard is doing what Howard does – make people smile as he takes a photo of the entire hiking party.

Howard reminds me of a Disney Cast Member – assertively friendly.

We had barely begun our hike when we were confronted by wildlife.

To say the place is beautiful is to understate the reality.

Happy 60th 58th birthday brother Howard.

This post happened because i wanted to text a (single, specific) photo to Howard yesterday for his birthday (i don’t like to use Facebook for birthday wishes).

Looking for that specific photo, i got caught up in many other nice photos of Howard in action.

Long story longer, i posted 15 photos on the Facebook feed and tagged Howard creating a much different message than the typical Facebook-provided-happy-birthday-wish (so uninspiring, to me).

From that, i decided to use 13 of them here today.

True story.

Live for today, plan for the future

Many Glacier 1911
Many Glacier in 1911, before the Hotel was built.

i do not regret visiting Glacier National park five times this (2018) Summer.

And even though my “life contract” expires June 8, 2019, i am celebrating by planning to spend Summer 2019 at Glacier.
