Changing your scenery can change things

Disney Keynote Speakers
Truth.

This post will sound like the antithesis of changing the scenery, but here’s how i counter that thinking – every morning, the first two hours are spent on a journey to thoughts i’ve never seen, or thoughts i haven’t seen in years.

Find creative ways to do the impossible – travel every day to someplace exciting.

Every morning after waking, i kiss my wife and son on the forehead as they sleep and then get down at the foot of the bed and say the same three prayers.

Every.

Morning.

Sometimes when i get down on bended knee, thoughts of the day’s to-do list creep in.

i catch this and start over.

Sometimes, i say the prayers real fast – too fast.

While i retired from Disney, i didn’t retire from working (making a good and decent contribution to society).

i hit the ground running each morning with two hours of writing, reading, praying, thinking – and finish this time block by 7am.

Same old, same old – we must not tire from routines that serve us.

Everyone, myself included, is in one of three places right now.

  1. Going through a hell no one knows about.
  2. Just came out of a hell no one knew about.
  3. Unbeknownst to us, is about to go into a hell no one will know about.

And some of us, myself included, are experiencing more than one of these right now.

Every living thing is part of the food chain

trash cans
One person’s trash is another’s treasure and vice versa.

Every living thing is part of the food chain.

Every living thing knows what will eat it.

And every living thing knows what to eat.

Been this way since time began.

But.

Humans transformed this when we started to become civilized.

We essentially evolved to the top, assuming we have pushed the wild far enough away – yet as soon as we venture to wild places, we revert to our designated place in the food chain.

With great privilege comes great responsibility.

Also, we can be reminded what the food chain makes painfully obvious – people in our life are a gift and they can be taken away at any time for any reason.

Impact damage.

Additional damage… you can look closely to see the long single crack from bottom to top.

Do what you have to do.

And do it while remaining patient, kind, generous, forgiving, and compassionate.

Then today will be a very good day.

Is codependence insidiously impacting your life?

Church hymn
First verse struck yesterday…”Where saints and sinners are friends. I wait to welcome the lost and the lonely to share the cup of my love.”

Is codependence insidiously impacting your life?

A local counselor describes enabling as:

A behavior that’s used to ease relationship tension caused by one partner’s problematic habits. Enabling behavior, which is rarely seen in healthy relationships, includes bailing your partner out, repeatedly giving him or her another chance, ignoring the problem, accepting excuses, always being the one trying to fix the problem, or constantly coming to the rescue.

When you cannot change another, you either remain codependent or you must find the courage to step away, perhaps forever.

PS. Ignoring behaviors/habits and accepting excuses are the ones that hit home hardest for me.
