Did you know that Walt Disney’s original plan was to use 16 acres at the Disney Studios to create a sort of year-round carnival attraction?

The city council never approved the request.

Walt could have abandoned the idea, or he could have kept going.

He kept going and that led to 160 acres in Anaheim, what we now call Disneyland.

What he originally thought was plenty of land (ten times more than his first thought of using 16), also became far too little to hold all his ideas and dreams.

But he didn’t know what he didn’t know.

He became land-locked in Anaheim as all the available land got taken. This was unfortunate because Walt kept dreaming.

Walt could have accepted reality and stopped with Disneyland. It was, by all accounts, insanely popular with the American people. But no.

He quietly began purchasing 27,443 acres near Orlando.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

The most influential man in history and why

unconditional love
man’s best friend for a reason – unconditional love (same with Jesus)

The most influential man in history? Jesus.

Why? No other person, ever, has left such a compelling argument that Love is all that matters. That there is no place for violence, for any reason.

Ever.

That forgiveness, for even the most heinous sin, is possible.

That’s literally impossible to comprehend.

Just Call

That’s all that has do be done. Just pick up the phone and call. So why haven’t I?

Probably the same reason they haven’t done it.

So who’s right? Is there even a right or wrong? Seems irrelevant. So who’s going to make the first move?

Ever feel like this scenario? Any advice to people (me) who have a challenging habit of not staying in touch?

Fall Is Finally Here

Fall. Back to school. Cooler temperatures. Colorful leaves. Pumpkins. Halloween. Sweaters. Swimming pools “closed for the season”.

Growing up in south-central Pennsylvania, these are the memories of Fall. An exciting time marked by dramatic changes from Summer.

Well, in central Florida, these changes from Summer to Fall are much less distinct. In fact, they are almost invisible.

Attempting to share some of our history and traditions with our son (9), a native Floridian, I had to find small ways to tell big stories.

So, the first night the temperature starts with a six instead of a seven, well, that’s when I officially declare Fall has arrived. We haven’t seen a day or night temperature below 70 since April, until today.

As we go through our busy lives, it’s these little things that make life more interesting, more “alive”, for me.

Do you have small ways to tell big stories? Want to share any here? Please feel free. But I’ll completely understand if you’re too busy.
