Each morning, taking personal time to reflect, pray, read, write, plan. These are all weapons against apathy.
And yes, I’m acutely aware of the degree of difficulty.

Sharpen our knives, clean our rifles, and check our provisions, while the enemy rests.

Humans are powerful creatures. But we are also easily bruised. In order to gain a decent level of self control, I’ve had to work hard to let go of old paradigms, hurts, memories.
I define self control not as complete mastery over self, but as a firm conviction that complete mastery is a possibility. Eventually. And it will take a lifetime. And it may be impossible.

As you read this, on this day (Sunday), what comes to mind for you?
There are many possible directions and interpretations.
It reminds me, at first glance, the daily surrender necessary to overcome addiction.
One day at a time.
A small surrender to desire.
And sometimes in one day, there are many small surrenders.
And then tomorrow, begin again.
Repeat until death.
