True story about starting with a blank page

Michael Jr — After exploring the third floor, i stopped on the next floor down – the convention center floor. This was a delightful surprise.

Stumbled upon this yesterday.

Wrote it in 2011…

A woman on the plane today spoke of not knowing what she wants to do with her life. So I suggested she start with a blank page, “God put me here to…”, and don’t stop writing until what you read makes you cry.

It is still my number one piece of advice when people are desperate to find their purpose in life.

If you’re not desperate, you won’t be motivated enough.

It worked for me in 2008.

Humble Servant

Disney Streetmosphere — Yesterday at Epcot. Muppets are servants. No?

Years ago, i took my (masterpiece?) 247-word vision-mission statement and rewrote it to one word.

Servant.

Immediately, the thought of serving with selfish motives hit me.

So i immediately added a second word.

Humble.

From 247 words to two.

Humble servant.

With one month from finishing a nine-year run of prolific blogging, and the reality of starting the 10th year…

Humbled.

Beyond anything i can put down in words.

Impossible comes to mind.

Yeah, this is simply impossible.

And yet, here we are.

Daily noticing — Yesterday morning at big intersection returning from cycling to breakfast.

Forgive yourself and then prove it.

Second chances are constantly in front of us.

We rarely see them because they are so prolific.

When was the last time you spent three days in a row doing these four things:

Begin the day on your knees
Watch the sun rise
Stare at the clouds for at least two minutes without distraction
Watch the sun set

Those four are tip of the demonstrable behaviors iceberg.

PS. Can you imagine doing those four things every day for the rest of your life?

We talked about controllable and uncontrollables

Disney 25 year service award — This was my 25th Disney anniversary recognition by my leader, Tom Madden, in 2009.

Larry and i hadn’t communicated for 30 years. As we spent five hours catching up, he responded to a section of our conversation where i had made significant changes in my life (2008-2009), particularly starting a business and the plan to retire from Disney at 55 (i was 49 at the time i made the plan).

Larry said something i had never considered. He said:

You took control of your life.

i had never considered that notion. In fact, it seemed quite the opposite. So i shared with him that perhaps in relinquishing control, i gained control.

It wasn’t until i surrendered everything to God that i was able to “take control” of my life.

Making progress for an honest and trusting relationship with a teenager is literally the battle of every parent’s life. Yes, there are exceptions. Our Family isn’t one of them.

When we refuse to quit, and use creativity and vision as anchors, we slowly and steadily make progress.

Progress begets progress.

Thank God for Imagination.
