Wake up calls are a gift, as painful as they are

Wake up calls are a gift if we choose to thrive instead of survive.

Most teens are struggling (like most adults) to find their way.

And in our pain, we look for (temporary) relief.

This is the root cause of addiction.

Tough love is called for.

With ourselves.

With the people we love.

The timing is often spontaneous.

Last night i threw our son’s iPhone 6 into the pool. The photo above was taken a few minutes ago; the morning after.

We’re gonna need a bigger boat

Orange County Convention Center
Spoke there many times, but never saw it from this angle.

Wouldn’t it be cool if we needed more Churches this size?

Getting close to God should be the easiest thing to do

Japanese Tengu statue at Epcot
Last night as we dined outside at Epcot.

Getting close to God should be the easiest thing to do because of God’s schedule. Think about it.

God is available 24/7.

Anywhere.

Anytime.

Day after day we put this off, until that small, persistent voice inside our head tells us getting close to God seems like it’s only for church going people.

Come on, seriously?

Is God afraid of new ideas?

Steve Jobs quote
Remember the civil rights struggles that some people died for? Looking back, how could we have been so blind?

God is not afraid of new ideas.

There are plenty in front of the world these days.

Thank you Pope Francis for speaking without fear.

Someday, gay marriage will not be an issue.

Someday, maybe, we will no longer need soldiers.

The paradox of spontaneity and bliss

Halloween candy
Yesterday. Marketers are very intentional with color, timing, placement, etc. The harsh reality, they are selling sugar and corn syrup.

When everything we do becomes intentional we have arrived at a place of bliss.

Critics will ask, “What about spontaneity?”

The paradox with spontaneity is the harsh reality that it requires planning to be blissful.

If we intentionally manage our time, our joy, and our gratitude, freedom is literally in every breath we take. As is spontaneity.

Our other fail safe option is to indulge in mind altering, often addicting, substances/habits. Otherwise known as empty bliss.
