Deep understanding and focus is hard to master

Steve Jobs vision
Last sentence in blue. Jesus also wanted to leave the world a better place than He found it.

Palm Sunday is tomorrow.

Are you ready for it?

Do you understand what it means?

What does the depth of your understanding do to the way you feel as you read this?

Note: When this goes live, Palm Sunday will be a month past. So frame the questions in whatever context resonates.

Here’s how to test if you’re judgemental or not

inconsiderate car parking
Do unto others? Do not judge.

Do unto others?

Do not judge.

As we were leaving last night’s College Admissions presentation at the High School, we spotted this.

First thought is, “What a jerk the car on the left is.”

Right?

That would be judging. No?

So don’t fall prey to weakness.

Here’s how to test if you’re judgemental or not.

Ask, “What if the car on the right parked after the left car parked and made a conscious choice to exit out the passenger side?”

As one of the first arrivals to the 7pm meeting, we saw a few parents and students arrive after the session started.

The pressures and choices of daily living can be stressful and influence our decisions.

People (including me) are so busy it scares me

unique speed limit sign
Yesterday while bicycling to the gym. Do you always drive the speed limit? Why not? Always in a hurry?

People are so busy it scares me.

But then i remember that i’m allowing myself to be scared.

The point of a well developed spiritual core is to confront fear and eliminate it quickly and easily.

i can’t control how busy people are nor can i control how their habits impact them or what they do, or don’t do, to manage their daily habits.

It doesn’t mean i don’t care, it means that no amount of worry on my part about their situation is going to change their situation.

So i let it go.

It’s called surrender.

It yields freedom, peace, contentment, and joy.

Can we manage while our anchor is away

seeds in clay ball

Will the flowers sprout before she returns home?

Cheryl flew to Disneyland yesterday morning. For work. Tough life.

The next two weeks, Chapin and i will manage our daily routine with a 33.3% workforce reduction.

The things we’ll miss, that Cheryl does, have to be accounted for and handled.

And all the while, we must remain in thriving mode, not surviving mode.

Is this possible?

If we have great habits going into the reduction, no problem.

If we don’t, well, you do the math.

(Update 30 days later, the seeds haven’t germinated.)

If we don’t gloss over what happens around us

Red Tailed Hawk in yard
Yesterday while on a client call…

Sitting at my office desk, looking through the window shade, provides a great view of our front yard.

While talking to a Michigan client yesterday, i watched the Red Tailed Hawk (above) fly down from a tree with a fresh catch in its talons.

My guess is it was a baby squirrel.

Whatever it was, it was limp and much bigger than a mouse.

While nature is, in reality, brutal, it is also a literally perfect ecosystem that has been in place for millions of years.

What can we learn from this and how can we apply it to our daily lives?

The gift of life is not guaranteed.

Live like you mean it.
