The fellowship of sinners changes everything we see

Church epiphany
Yesterday, January 7, 2018.

Think Christians are hypocritical?

No doubt, for sure, we are.

Think Christians should get a clue?

Absolutely. Totally agree.

So.

So, are you staying away from a “Church community” because of realities like the two above?

What if.

What if you went into it (Church Community commitment) thinking that organized religion is nothing more than…drum roll…..

The fellowship of sinners.

Seeing Christians as the hypocritical sinners they (we) are changes everything we see.

It doesn’t feel like Sunday

Disney Customer Service Keynote Speakers
Fresh off the eight-day Disney Cruise yesterday at 9am. Note the year? It was 2017 when i wrote this post.

It doesn’t feel like Sunday.

Christmas Eve.

Today.

Sunday.

We have one full day at home in the middle of a 16-day stretch away from home.

If we go to Mass today, it will not be our normal 8:45am.

Too busy (and too tired) for Church

inspiring social media quote
Yesterday on social media. Can’t recall which. Might have been LinkedIn.

Too busy (and too tired) for Church.

To be honest (as teens say, tbh), every step we take can be “Church”.

The photo above reminds me of that.

To be grateful for your own smile is overlooked – why would we focus on it, it’s so easy to do and so frequent.

Why would we focus on the smile of another looking at us?

Why focus on another who’s smiling but not looking at us?

The answer seems so obvious to me at this stage of my life.

All those years (decades) of being oblivious to how gratitude is the source of so much power over the devil.

To which i say, “Better late than never.”

inspirational quote
From a recent LinkedIn post from Joe Tye.

i ain’t a Saint, but i try like heck to be super decent at all the basics.

Compassion.

Forgiveness.

Gratitude.

Humility.

Service.

Honesty.

Behaving admirably.

Personal responsibility.

Self-control.

Initiative.

Fun.

What might have been gets forfeited through indecision

Florida turtle on sidewalk
Riding home from gym yesterday. Bike parked upper right against telephone pole.

Florida turtle on sidewalk
Rode past and then decided to stop and investigate.

This thing is built to avoid touch from other creatures.

What might have been gets forfeited due to indecision.

It dawned on me yesterday that Cheryl and i have made generous offers and suggestions (over time) for others to visit and stay for extended periods of time.

At one point (20 years ago +-) we had blueprints sketched out for a mother-in-law apartment on our two-acre lot.

The reality is this, we get comfortable with our surroundings – the unknown and potentially better situation bring change, but the (scary) opportunity often gets trumped by familiarity and fear.

Change is scary, which is another way of saying opportunity is scary.

Opportunity often gets trumped by familiarity and fear.

Our options when an offered opportunity isn’t embraced?

Serenity…

You can offer, suggest, and or recommend.

But you must allow the other person(s) to make their decision.

When the decision isn’t what you feel is best (long-term), you must ride it out.

And wait.

And let it go.

Over time (years or decades later) it will likely play out unfavorably.

Should you feel guilty or sorry for the other’s missed opportunity?

The awkward (and correct) answer is “no”.
