Wall mural on building
6:20pm…how lucky are those who believe in something with all their heart?

Years ago, an epiphany. i used to celebrate Easter once a year. But came to a realization i was cheating myself.

Christmas means nothing without Easter.

Yet the Easter Bunny can’t hold a candle to Santa.

i had created this script that Christmas was the most important “holiday”.

And then the epiphany…

We come to know the true meaning of Easter when we learn to celebrate it every day.

Whether you celebrate Easter or not, a sincere wish for you: Happy present moment.

Operationalize your personal culture with traditions

Orlando Disney Keynote Speakers
April 2011.

Operationalize your personal culture with traditions.

This is a concept i learned at Disney.

You can be intentional about designing your organizational culture.

If you’re not intentional then your culture is heavily influenced by random and unintentional things, people, and events.

In 1999 we volunteered to deliver “Food For Families” on Thanksgiving morning. One month later we did it again on Christmas morning.

As we entered the new millennium, we discovered that we could volunteer again on Easter morning.

So here we are, Easter morning 2018, about to head out to do what we always do on Easter morning.

Palm Sunday Grace = Overwhelmed

At Chruch yesterday with a standing room only crowd (2k+-) as the Deacon, the Priest, and i read the Palm Sunday story to our congregation – a stunning moment…

Deacon played the narrator, Father John portrayed Jesus, the congregation played the part of “the crowd”, and i proclaimed the voice of assorted other characters in the story.

Five minutes into the 15-minute group narration, i lost my place.

Panic.

Unbelievable embarrassment.

Then more panic, if that was even possible.

The harder i worked to scan the reading to find where we were, the worse it got.

Deacon Larry covered for me by reading two of my parts.

Disney taught me to stay calm under pressure.

i left my position, walked over to the cantor, apologized and “begged” for help.

In the end, it all worked out.

The blessing was that Chapin got to see my hugely public “mistake” and how i handled it.

These moments don’t define us, our reaction and recovery do.

Had a hunch it was going to be significant

Holy Family Orlando Catholic Church
Last night as i arrived for “Lector practice”.

Holy Family Orlando Catholic Church
Zoomed in from same spot.

Had a hunch it was going to be significant.

What?

This Sunday’s reading.

Haven’t been to “Lector practice” in years.

Why?

A busy travel schedule for starters.

i didn’t go last night to practice.

i went for clarity.

And sure enough, “Reader one” (my assignment) has a significant responsibility on Palm Sunday.

Years ago i was caught not knowing. i did fine. But i was scared to death for being ignorant.

Christmas wins with presents, Easter wins with purpose

Donald Duck egg at Epcot
Lunch in Japan yesterday. Easter egg?

Christmas means nothing without Easter.

Yesterday’s message during the 4th Sunday in Lent was how Jesus questioned what was happening.

Was he really supposed to walk right into his certain death?

Like we question.

And questioning can lead to doubt.

Doubt to fear.

Fear to resistance.
