Thousands of cars, three people

Reaching Piegan Pass. We are the only ones there.

Two and a half hours of casual pace got us to Piegan Pass. We budget 30-minutes per mile for any and every trail.

It is glorious to hike alone in a vast wilderness. Scary at times too. But mostly glorious.

Being so deep in the wilderness is an exceptionally vibrant opportunity. Every civilized convenience disappears. For brief moments you get a sense for how far humans have progressed from our primitive origins.

PBJ never tastes as good as after hiking uphill for five continuous miles into the center of millions of acres of Grizzly Bear habitat. Can you imagine handing a PBJ sandwich to a Neanderthal?

Transitioning from Two Medicine to St Mary Valley, heading north.

How do you see what we saw yesterday and not feel inspired by nature’s creations?

In solitude, self-reflection is magnified.

Bears gotta eat

Bear near trail and hikers
Random photo from yesterday’s drive.

The Park Ranger (above photo) led hikers past the Grizzly. Glacier’s most popular trail had come to a halt. No one was comfortable simply hiking past a Grizzly.

But the Ranger apparently was. The Grizzly did a bluff-charge body fake. Stopped everyone in their tracks. i then had to drive our car from a stopped position and missed what happened next.

Are you patient?

Mountain
Mt Clements is iconic. It sits behind Logan Pass visitor’s center. Photo: Taken from the car overlook below the Lunch Creek trailhead.

Two people with different abilities, goals, comfort levels. Each must rely on the other for patience. In a lifelong relationship. On a challenging trail. Patient is a virtue.

Much better than expected

Regret sucks.

We had no regrets yesterday.
