734 miles of trail, spirit

Seven men standing on a stage holding beer steins
Seven of us.

Glacier’s 734 miles of named trail provide countless ways to feed your spirit.

One Million acres, spirit

Mountain chalet
Sperry Chalet is center-left in this photo. It is a spiritual experience for me (and many others).

One-million acres is a huge Church.

While i haven’t been in every room in Glacier’s cathedral, i’ve been in somewhere either side of half.

Glacier surprises, spirit

My shadow is incredibly long. Hotel logo upper left.

An airport hotel that feels like a National Park Lodge is unusual. We are on our fourth 2024 reservation. How is that possible?

Perhaps the Universe is guiding us in new ways.

McDonald Creek, spirit

27-second video: There are two bridges over McDonald Creek. One is a construction site now. One is a foot (and horse) bridge. The foot bridge is unknown or invisible to most visitors. The folks on the wooden overlook cannot comprehend how people get across the creek with its inherent and obvious dangers.

McDonald Creek is a drainage basin emptying into 10-mile long, one-mile wide Lake McDonald.

Lake McDonald’s depth reaches 475’.

More Lake McDonald stats here.

Allergic to cold, spirit

Apple Watch fitness app in mountains
Two hours after leaving hotel, we are ready to start our Oberlin saddle hike.

We got a half-mile in and light rain began. There was zero rain expected.

Rule #1 for Mountain weather is anything can happen at anytime.

Because of the cold and wind-chill, i easily decided/agreed to return to our car and wait it out.

The clouds never gave us hope for clearing.

We drove back down to 3,200’ and dry skies.
