Peace with who you are, content with what you have

expectations gap and unhappiness
Expectations gap and unhappiness – first example. Our imagination (hopeful expectations) is greater than our reality (actual outcomes).

Dying well is directly proportional to our ability to accomplish two simple concepts.

To accomplish these two soon enough in our life so that we can live the rest of our life carrying peace and contentment everywhere we go.

  1. Peace with who you are
  2. Content with what you have

Managing our expectations begins by creating our big picture expectation – what we can refer to as our “vision”.

Only preach what you practice

Just a moment in time yesterday. Almost there.

Knowing how i got here and why i was here – surreal.

The best way to travel with two backpacks.

First time securing a bicycle to a bamboo pole. Couldn’t find a bike rack to save my life.

Wasn’t expecting this, but wasn’t surprised either – as soon as i walked inside.

For posterity.

First time showing up for a speech in cutoff jeans and a sweat-soaked tee-shirt.

Only preach what you practice.

Not gonna lie, there was a moment of nervous uncertainty when the client and i met for the first time yesterday morning.

So many firsts (risks).

Many of us are hard to impress.

But what went down yesterday…i impressed myself.

Pretty rare.

And cool.

You deserve this

blueberry picking
Less than 24 hours ago.

The bike is barely visible, but it’s there.

You deserve this.

Two hours spent walking to and from the gym, including nearly an hour in the gym.

Hey, why don’t you ride your bike to pick fresh blueberries?

The season, after all, is only six weeks long.

This is the end of week two and you haven’t been yet.

Well, for starters, that’s gonna take another hour.

Plus you have a client call in less than an hour.

Yeah, but dude, you just spent the past four days out-of-state working like you mean it.

Treat yourself right.

Don’t wait.

Swimming in February

iPhone pool app
Yesterday we went swimming at sunset.

Swimming in February.

Last night was the third time this month Chapin has been in the pool.

i don’t keep track, but it must have been my 6th or 7th time this month.

In fact, went in at 10am after yesterday’s bike ride.

Growing up in Pennsylvania, swimming in February, surrounded by palm trees, was only a dream.

Happy present moment

Disney speaker jeff noel
Remembered this engaging activity from yesterday and captured a quick note as i was heading to a meeting. Do you know the difference in what creates your best days and your worst days?

Happy present moment.

May you and i find joy in the mundane, the routine, the small, the unnoticed.
