Habitual noticer

Randomly gazed at this Lily Pad. Instantly saw the ‘buzz’ of activity.
Short video. This should have never been noticed. It took ‘forever’ to finally see the insect. All i initially saw was the ‘vibration’. By the way, this is the third and final video. In the first two videos, never saw the bee.

Noticing isn’t difficult if you are present.

Presence feeds on gratitude.

Gratitude feeds on observation.

When you notice things you normally never notice, you start noticing more.

Things we notice are stereotypically categorized as physical objects.

Insight: notice thoughts, feelings, ideas, and behaviors that you never noticed before.

Practice being present, mindful, and motivated.

Think, watch, listen, feel, and observe in places you rarely or never do.

When you change what you see, what you see changes.

This open-windowed corner dorm room caught my eye from the dining hall last night. The higher (3rd floor) view and the rare, additional window make it a prized location for an over-focused student. Th fact that you gain (unauthorized) roof access is also appealing for the right college student.

You can observe a lot by watching.

Watching is more difficult, and perhaps dormant when our devices supersede our desire to grow and interact with our surroundings.

From my experience, college is the single most important opportunity to interact with your life.

Why?

Because you only cross this threshold between teenage years and early twenties once, and then it’s gone forever.
