We grab for what is always there, but we always let go. Why? Sandy Hook

Why did Sandy Hook happen? My first thoughts. My second thoughts. Here are my third thoughts. I have yet to watch, listen, or read any Sandy Hook news. It’s been eight days since December 14, 2012. Here’s where I’m at:

The parents, relatives, friends, staff, neighbors – anyone who personally knew those 26 precious lives. What happened? Why?

And what did it do to us individually? As small town communities? As a nation? As a global family?

And what will become, if anything, of this?

West Side Middle School. Thurston High School. Columbine. Oklahoma City bombing.

My friend’s teenage Son, while sitting on his back porch pulled a pistol’s trigger as it was pressed against his temple.

What? Why?

I can only do this in small chunks…. tomorrow… more…

This is the third daily blog I write out of five, the fourth is about our contribution we make, in exchange for survival on our planet – click here.

Four things occupying space in my heart from Sandy Hook

two kids climbing on their Dad's legs
these children wouldn’t let their Dad alone as he was taking pictures of his Boy Scout son

Have purposely avoided all media exposure from this past week – since Sandy Hook Elementary School made world news. Why? Four reasons:

  1. I never (ever) want to know the name of the killer – it gains me us nothing
  2. The world is full of horrific, tragic events – every. single. day.
  3. Compassion fatigue from #2
  4. The worry that too soon, our Connecticut wakeup call simply becomes an annual day of remembrance

Why did the Sandy Hook tragedy happen a few days ago? (part 2)

Sarasota Florida sunset
the sun sets everyday and we never question why, nor worry about tomorrow’s promise

Why did the Sandy Hook tragedy happen a few days ago? (part 2)

Truth be told, it’s a Monday morning as I write this. Lots to do before a 20-day vacation that starts in three days.

The first thought this morning revolves around yesterday’s last two bullet points.

Somewhere in the midst of Sandy Hook’s horror, is our own horror nerve ending being exposed.

There are things in our life we need to stop. These things are a tragedy. And we’ll live with regret if we don’t change…

Why did the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy happen?

A church Christmas show about Christmas without Christ
last night the Christmas show brought tears to my eyes, just three days after Sandy Hook

Why did the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy happen a few days ago?

I don’t know.

No one can say for sure.

They can’t.

And even if a note is found (and maybe there has), and the killer wrote a reason, are we really going to believe it to be the gospel truth?

Seriously?

And here’s my first take after only three days since the tragedy:

  • may overwhelming love comfort the Families directly and indirectly impacted
  • may the media stop feeding the frenzy and hysteria of negativity, and blame
  • may everyone pause, for longer than we have in years, and look in the mirror
  • may we ask ourselves to be this concerned over the small, unrecognizable, daily tragedies in that mirror
  • may people reading this have the patience to figure out what I just said…

Why is there is no rest for the weary?

this was just the appetizer...we could eat and eat and eat...(or spend and spend and...)

Why is there is no rest for the weary? Why do we gain weight if we overeat? Why do we go into debt if we spend more than we earn? Why don’t we get the promotion when we’re not willing to outwork the others? Why is my desk a mess? Why? Because there is no rest for the weary. Some things are painfully obvious.
