The weird thing about a million-acre mountain paradise is the weather determines first impressions.
First impressions may be inaccurate.
So you can visit nirvana, and not get the vibe because the weather blocks views, forces uncomfortable temperatures, and disappoints your high expectations.

‘HB’. i asked Sally, Hugh Black’s daughter, if HB stood for Hugh Black. It does.
Walking out of St Mary Lodge after dinner, noticed an “upside down” brand on a lobby wooden table top. i spun the table around to take the photo (above).
The next day i randomly saw Sally and asked her about it.
i told her the letters were upside down when i spotted them.
And then i showed her the photo above.
She revealed that the brand is the ‘Lazy HB’. The letters should lay sideways to be technically correct.
By the way, Hugh Black, Sally’s dad, founded the St Mary Lodge in the 1920’s.

During Covid in 2020, spent seven weeks here. Originally planned on only two weeks.
When we have all our Glacier Cabin window blinds up, i told Cheryl it reminds me of our first home.
In 1985 we moved into a brand new 1,100 square-foot home with three bedrooms, two baths, a kitchen and great room. We also had an attached one-car garage where our washer and dryer sat.
We owned some pots and pans, clothes, and two directors chairs that we unofficially requisitioned from WSU.
We had no table, no furniture, no bed, no curtains.
It’s the no curtains part that this post is referencing.
At night with the lights on, you can’t see out, but anyone can see everything inside your home. Classic fishbowl reality.
