The circle of life

instructions on paper
Most write Family. Then i ask them what’s at the center of Family. Many then say God. i press once more, what’s at the center of that. They usually stop with God.
circle with the word Jesus written in the center
i then reveal my answer and it’s as if they are caught off guard. Why/how did a Christian miss this?

What gift has Providence on man that is so dear to him as his children.

Cicero

The best things are nearest: breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of God just before you.

Robert Louis Stevenson

Gratitude, more aware of what you have and what you don’t. Recognizing the treasures in the simple – a child’s hug, fertile soil, a golden sunset. Relishing in the comfort of the common – a warm bed, a hot meal, a clean shirt.

Let the first thing be

Blue wild flower
Flowers during a Finland trip. Same flowers you see in Glacier National Park.

Let the first thing be, upon awakening, thank you.

So cliche.

Say thank you to start your day.

Up to you.

Proud of you for the way you honor such a simple, initial, daily habit and ritual.

Reflection and gratitude crush this

Stitch. Everywhere. Lilo sometimes. Biking Going to the Sun Road June 2019, 300 meters from Continental Divide at Logan Pass.

Reflection and gratitude crush this.

Crush what?

Unhappiness.

Imagine being asked to start writing all the things you are grateful for and not being able to ever finish your list.

Try being unhappy when you are grateful.

PS. If it ain’t obvious, highly recommend Hailey’s video. Only 12 minutes.

Gratitude

Another photo from the homeowners dock. Quite a lovely place for a phone call.

When we drove to Epcot for dinner two days ago, a car pulled out in front of us while we traveled at 55-mph (88-kph).

Was grateful for so many things:

  • Eyesight
  • Being able to drive
  • Being with family
  • Able to go to Epcot for dinner on a moment’s notice
  • Having three seconds in the day to “lose” from the slowdown
  • Having well-maintained roads, everywhere
  • No one got hurt
  • Nothing was damaged
  • Was driving the speed-limit
  • Having an adult mindset to focus on gratitude, not “poor driving judgement”
  • Seeing the long line of vehicles behind us and realizing the driver made a practical move

Gratitude is your leader

i love to travel to speak, but not a fan of being gone. Pictured here is my speaking “costume”. Travel light and be grateful you are alive and get to transform lives.

“Gratitude leads everything in my life,” Oniwar said in the documentary. “…As I tell my class, if everything in the world has gone bad, it’s an opportunity to be grateful that you’re still here to notice it.”

Rock bottom is a solid foundation on which you can begin rebuilding.
