Too busy (and too tired) for Church

inspiring social media quote
Yesterday on social media. Can’t recall which. Might have been LinkedIn.

Too busy (and too tired) for Church.

To be honest (as teens say, tbh), every step we take can be “Church”.

The photo above reminds me of that.

To be grateful for your own smile is overlooked – why would we focus on it, it’s so easy to do and so frequent.

Why would we focus on the smile of another looking at us?

Why focus on another who’s smiling but not looking at us?

The answer seems so obvious to me at this stage of my life.

All those years (decades) of being oblivious to how gratitude is the source of so much power over the devil.

To which i say, “Better late than never.”

People (including me) are so busy it scares me

unique speed limit sign
Yesterday while bicycling to the gym. Do you always drive the speed limit? Why not? Always in a hurry?

People are so busy it scares me.

But then i remember that i’m allowing myself to be scared.

The point of a well developed spiritual core is to confront fear and eliminate it quickly and easily.

i can’t control how busy people are nor can i control how their habits impact them or what they do, or don’t do, to manage their daily habits.

It doesn’t mean i don’t care, it means that no amount of worry on my part about their situation is going to change their situation.

So i let it go.

It’s called surrender.

It yields freedom, peace, contentment, and joy.

Ask your Son

Spring Grove HS class of 1977
Seven months official notice.

Ask your Son.

Ask your wife.

Odds are decent they’ll tell you to go.

You get a handful of these High School class reunions in a lifetime.

If your son plays football, you’ve no doubt seen a couple dozen games from 7th grade to four years worth of college.

Remember, please, after all, it’s your 40th High School class reunion.

Maybe it’s college homecoming. Or a special tribute to the players. could be an insanely good reason to attend the football game.

Knowing in March that Oct 28th is a conflict between your Son’s college football game and your 40th (you caught that, right, 40th?) reunion, and you’re going to pass on the reunion to attend one of four Fall’s worth of college football games? And let’s assume you’ve already attended a dozen or two High School games, ok?

There’s an opportunity to teach a child about childhood relationships. Attending High School reunions is one of them.

My Mom taught and continues to teach me.

Sounds like an excuse

Yesterday, Friday, March 17, 2017 (St Patrick’s Day no less) was a glorious Spring Day next to Walt Disney World.

However, we spent 99.9% of it indoors.

One recovering from an overnight/red-eye flight, the other recovering from major middle-of-the-night sleep disruption to make the airport pickup.

Add to that the day-long paperwork task and you have a recipe for not venturing out.

Sounds like an excuse.

Well, truth be told, it was.

Hoping today will not be a repeat.

High today is forecasted for 79.

He has no regrets and no fear as he lives out his final days

Tampa Bay Hyatt
Out for a run in Tampa Bay.

Tampa Bay
Running is a great way to see things you’d never see otherwise.

While i’m in the middle of an extraordinary milestone (at least that’s what my boss keeps telling me), yesterday i visited with an 89-year old who has asked the staff that he be taken off the 18 pills he takes daily. They’ve relocated him from his Senior Apartment (two doors down from my Mother-In-Law) to the 24-hour Nursing Home (ten rooms down from my Father-In-Law’s room).

Hospice visits him daily, and he told me he has no regrets and no fear.

We fly home in four hours and i will never see him again.

That is, not unless we both believe in Heaven.

He did share that he’s not sure about all the stuff in the Bible – like “streets of gold”, etc.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.
