Rising Sun day 4, spirit

Glacier National Park
Just under a mile from Rising Sun Motor Inn. So special.
Glacier National Park
View from Rising Sun’s ‘upper Motel’, the one farthest from Sun Road. Corner room. So awesome.

We began a 14-consecutive Summer tradition at Rising Sun.

We end a 14-consecutive Summer tradition at Rising Sun.

Never saw this long-term, deeply invested tradition coming.

Grateful for how humbly it started and how understated it is concluding.

Glacier National Park
Rising Sun Motor Inn and Cabins. Typical room. Nothing fancy. Heat, but no AC. Electricity and indoor plumbing, including a shower. No wifi. No cell.

Same room, different angle.

Finally, the view as you look towards the door (right).

A spartan room in Glacier National Park is profoundly simple and simply profound.

Simple.

True.

Glacier National Park
Glacier National Park’s Rising Sun Motor Inn is retro Americana tourism. We absolutely love its simplicity and its location.

Rising Sun Motor Inn’s staff have a daily tradition. We enjoy the fun.

Glacier National Park’s Rising Sun’s Restaurant, Two Dog Flats, is literally the place and thing that started our annual Glacier Summer visits. Photo: The beef brisket is one of about 10 amazing and hearty entrees.

After 14 consecutive summers, we see how our relationships with Park staff are fading.

How?

Namely, turnover and natural attrition.

It is what it is.

Glacier Park Lodge
Glacier Park Lodge’s Rez dogs feed human souls. When you stay as long as us, you temporarily adopt them as cousins.
Glacier Park Lodge
Glacier Park Lodge’s front lawn is a Rez dog favorite. Turns out it’s a Disney Cast Member fav too.

Third rule in life, for life, once mastered…do life’s basics brilliantly.

Glacier Park Lodge front door lobby entrance. Hunter and Goldie, 2025.

Just ran into Ben Browning (new location manager) while walking around the RV grounds.

Other than Cheryl, Ben’s hug is the biggest of 2026.

We go back a decade-plus in Glacier.

This year Ben switched from Xanterra Lodging to Pursuit Lodging.
