Announcing the three types of hell

Disney conference speaker
Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends… (Emerson, Lake and Palmer lyric).

Three types of hell that no one knows about:

  1. Currently going through it
  2. Just came out of going through a hell no one knew about
  3. About to go into a hell no one will know about

Clarified this at the top of my leadership keynote speech because i wanted the audience to know:

  1. i pray silently for them
  2. When i go on and on about pixie dust, they’ll know i’m grounded in reality

This matters because the audience needs to know that in spite of our hells, we are stewards for goodness in the world.

If you believe in hell

Keith Mitzel preacher

Remember those people from High School that chose a devilish path? They fell prey to a lack of purpose and without a morale compass they focused on pleasure – constantly.

Do you believe in hell?

Here’s an intriguing thought:

Let’s make a living out of destroying hell.

Love the hell out of someone. That was the gist of yesterday’s conversation with Keith (above) in Hawaii. Was best man at his wedding, a week after we graduated High School. His bride was pregnant. He learned decades later it wasn’t his child.

He’s a preacher now. A wretch who was saved. Now he’s paying it forward. In three days, he will reach the one year anniversary of the day he and his son Sam (27, and not the child from his first wife) were driving home and were struck head on by a drunk driver.

Keith was flown to ICU with multiple life-threatening injuries including 11 of 12 ribs broken.

Tragically, there was no saving Sam.

This is the tip of the iceberg for Keith.

Live like you mean it.

Everyone has more than enough hell to deal with

Windermere Community Church

(photo: Most days the run passes this sign twice… going and coming back)

You’re joking right? Oh my gosh!

Neighbor said the Pastor was seeing another woman from the Church but that he and his wife were overcoming the infidelity.

Sadly, a drunk driver crossed over the line and hit him and his wife head on. She didn’t make it.

Ok, so the Pastor, the leader of the flock, is in a deep dark hole.

Who helps him?

And what happened in the first place?

Be kind to everyone. Everyone has a hell no one else knows about.

A crutch to glorify self-pity?

Disney Hotel picture
Disney’s Flagship Resort for Disney Resorts worldwide

We can take solace in knowing that everyone is either going through hell right now, or just coming out of it, or about to start going through hell at any moment. We live our lives moving in and out of these three places.

To think someone else has it easier is nonsense.

And a crutch to glorify self-pity.

Case in point: Some people are so poor, all they have is money.

All they talk about is how grateful they are to be back

All they talk about is how grateful they are to be back

There are some among us who have been to hell and back (and we all have) but you would never know because they never talk about how awful it was. All they talk about is how grateful they are to be back.

Be kind to those positive, happy souls who do not seem to be affected by tragedy, heartbreak, overwhelming stress and pressure and the entire catalog of other challenges.

Anyone hearing that echo?

… all they talk about is how grateful they are to be back.
