We resist and fear change automatically

Homeowner meeting
Controversy and fear of change. Vacant land near our community has most people worried about change.

Sundays are a traditional “church-day” for many Americans.

Yet there’s decent media coverage that church attendance is declining.

Lots of “justifiable reasons” for only going to Church on Easter and Christmas Sundays.

We didn’t go yesterday.

Why?

“Justifiable reasons”.

Which leads me here…

We resist and fear change automatically.

The change that has engulfed our 70-acre neighborhood the past decade is best described as an urban-growth tsunami.

Similar to what New York City looked like before Christopher Columbus discovered America and what it looks like now.

In a 15-mile by two-mile north-to-south corridor along State Road 535, there was nothing here but wilderness.

It has all been aggressively developed.

No more open space.

But there is one spot that is sparsely populated.

We are in a rare 200-acre part of Orange County that has homes zoned from one home per two acres to one per 10-acres.

There’s pressure to change this.

Nursing homes really make you think

Fall foliage
i wondered what the tree looked like from the trunk up.

Fall foliage
Remarkably similar.

Nursing homes really make you think.

What do we envision our final years being comprised of?

No one really plans on a nursing home.

But if that’s the hand we’re dealt, how would we respond to daily life, knowing this was the final home for us – never would there be any other option.

Of course, Hospice is probable, but you would most likely remain in the nursing home.

i love feeling uncomfortable with thoughts like these.

The best time to concern ourselves with stuff like this is when we don’t need to be.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Disney Springs is a four-mile bike ride from home

AMC Zootopia ticket
Time stamped with yesterday’s date., May 30, 2016.

Love that our drive to Disney Springs takes less than 10 minutes, including traffic.

PS. The new Disney Springs is much larger than i expected. World-class all the way.

It’s a four-mile bike ride.

(photo above: The stress from work and high expectations can take a toll. It’s our responsibility to figure this out so we can thrive, not merely survive.)

Balance in all five of life’s big choices is abandoned because it’s too hard.

Stress management is often attacked with prayer. Prayer alone is not enough.

Why?

Because we are not just a spiritual, emotional creature.

We also move, think, work, and dwell.

When we carry one end of the stick we carry the other.

We cannot separate life’s (5) big choices.

How and where to volunteer is a big question in 2014

Catholic bulletin announcement for readers
After a lifetime of 8:45am Mass, we may be moving

Shortly after becoming a professional speaker in 1999 there was a campaign for parishioners to volunteer their time, talent, and/or treasure.

We were already giving ‘treasure’, so becoming a Catholic Lector seemed reasonable.

What does this mean to anyone else?

Who needs our time, talent, and treasure more?

Our Church or our Family?

Perhaps the volunteering and donating could be for a family member instead of the Church?

Both?

Life is hard.
