Tax Day, 2000

8-second video: Wrote last year about this exact experience and what it taught me about Grizzly Bear and human interaction. To witness it laid the foundation for a once-in-a-lifetime experience a few days later.

One of the first times intentionally using a specific date – to help remember the “anniversary” date – was April 15, 2000.

Tax Day 2000.

There’s a penalty if you don’t do the work by April 15.

There’s a penalty if you don’t do the work to get and stay healthy.

In 1999, was disgusted (devastated?) at how far apart my intentions to live a healthy life were compared to my actual behaviors to live a healthy life.

Rationalized it took me years to get so slothful that i could reverse engineer a slow and steady comeback. Not in one or two years, but over the course of five-10 years.

Thus began running from our mailbox to our next neighbor’s mailbox. Once a day for a week. Second week, two mailboxes a day for a week. Third week, three mailboxes a day. Etc.

Tax Day and one-mailbox-a-day.

It worked.

Karma magnet

8-second video: The Great Plains’ Western boundary. Behind me is the Montana Rockies Eastern boundary.

Karma magnet.

What?

Good thoughts and good deeds attract the same.

Poor thoughts and poor deeds attract the same.

Good karma is like an internal compass, always pointing in the right direction.

Good thinking and poor thinking coexist. Good actions and poor actions coexist. Literally our Universe creates equal halves.

Light and dark.

Hot and cold.

Life and death.

What you focus on is what you see. The other stuff is always there, but you only look for the good.

You aren’t denying the other half exists, you simply ignore it.

You tune it out.

Now, all you hear is the good stuff. The possibilities, the hope, the faith, the steps you need to take.

Newsflash: Praying is not enough

Steve Jobs quote
Be tough on yourself. And be gentle when it’s called for.

We pray for transformational change. For the world. For the people we love. Even for ourselves.

Newsflash: Praying is not enough.

May 2016 bring you the unquenchable desire to do three simple things:

  1. rethink
  2. reprioritize
  3. recommit

Yeah, it’s simple, and it’s that hard.

PS. i’m not praying for you, i’m writing five daily, differently-themed blogs to inspire you to be bold, determined, and humble.

Pope Francis 2015 World Resolution suggestions

The American Dream

(photo: Random American Family gathering during the Holidays, January 4, 2015, yesterday.)

Pope Francis offering resolutions for our world family (copied from an email):

……….

Take care of your spiritual life, your relationship with God, because this is the backbone of everything we do and everything we are.

Take care of your family life, giving your children and loved ones not just money, but most of all your time, attention and love.

Be careful how you speak, purify your tongue of offensive words, vulgarity and worldly decadence.

Take care of your relationships with others, transforming your faith into life and your words into good works, especially on behalf of the needy.

Heal wounds of the heart with the oil of forgiveness, forgiving those who have hurt us and medicating the wounds we have caused others.

Look after your work, doing it with enthusiasm, humility, competence, passion and with a spirit that knows how to thank the Lord.

Be careful of envy, lust, hatred and negative feelings that devour our interior peace and transform us into destroyed and destructive people.

Watch out for anger that can lead to vengeance; for laziness that leads to existential euthanasia; for pointing the finger at others, which leads to pride; and for complaining continually, which leads to desperation.

Take care of brothers and sisters who are weaker … the elderly, the sick, the hungry, the homeless and strangers, because we will be judged on this.

Your life and your insane propositions

Quote about beer and being drunk
Last day with beer was December 30, 2001

Walt Disney inspired millions worldwide and continues to inspire millions more today. He inspired and inspires on so many diverse levels. That’s one of the attractions we have with him and his Company.

Overarching all of this, is the decency, quality, and innovation he stood for and continues to stand for. He was an overachiever.

So imagine a person deciding (after 28 years) to quit (for the third, and ultimately the final time) drinking beer the day before New Year’s eve. To begin sobriety on New Year’s eve is an insane proposition.

To die for the sins of the world is even more insane.

Overachieving is the greatest asset under certain conditions.
