Unscripted and unexpected is a subconscious habit at Disney

A Disney Magic Moment at Casting
A Disney Magic Moment at The Disney Casting Center, yesterday.

Having fun at the Disney Casting Center
Donna’s husband Doug, having fun as we left the building. It’s easy to become a kid again at Disney.

They truly live to serve others.

Disney Cast Members are simply the very best customer service advocates in the world. The only request yesterday was for a simple, “Happy birthday, Donna” when we arrived.

It started there, but didn’t end there.

The three Disney Cast Members added (on their own) a very enthusiastic, and coordinated birthday welcome.

And while i was distracted by running into (and chatting with) two colleagues from Resort Operations days, the three also surprised Donna with a phone call from Goofy, who wished Donna a happy birthday too.

Unscripted and unexpected equals surprised and delighted.

And while intended for Donna, the ripple effect impacted at least 10 people vicariously.

When do we stop discovering the basics?

Two Bald Eagles near Walt Disney World
Yesterday from the back porch, two American Bald Eagles.

Can we soar even though meek?

Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.

Being gentle and patient is a wise investment, even if it doesn’t seem so.

Kinda like when we discover that in giving, we receive.

There’s a point to waiting. Usually it’s to teach us not to.

What the heck were the odds?

Zero.

But it happened anyway.

There’s Nick Vujicic, in downtown Winter Garden, sitting a meter away.

A personal hero because he inspires the world in spite of his physical limitations – no legs, no arms, since birth.

How do you take a once-in-a-lifetime chance encounter and make it memorable and enjoyable so you don’t regret later not doing anything?

How?

Just do it. And make it fun and sincere.

The gift of an ordinary day is now

jeff noel and Mike Attardi
Last night at Holy Family Catholic Church’s PREP class pep rally.

It’s easy to allow being moody to be okay, but it shouldn’t be.

Dropping by the middle school at lunch yesterday for an impromptu visit, the teen asked his dad, “How are you so happy all the time?”

“Gratitude”, the dad answered without hesitation.

Later that evening was PREP class and coincidently a pep rally for the “Soup-er Bowl Challenge”, with former NFL player Mike Attardi as the keynote speaker.

Mike saw the Pixar tee-shirt and introduced himself and his young son. We know many of the same Disney legends. Mike is an NFL legend to football fans, and to non-fans, he’s just another Parishioner.

Even legends must manage their mood.

And Mike was the perfect gentleman. With me, and then with the entire cafeteria full of middle-schoolers.

What is our major responsibility each day?

What is our major responsibility each day?

To model to our child, children, nieces and nephews how to live gracefully in a world that attacks us from every side.

Life is hard.

Our major responsibility is to show how it’s possible to thrive in spite of this harsh reality.
