Sunday’s In August

If you follow all five blogs, you know that Sundays in August are earmarked for short You Tube videos I’ve shot.

This is the first Spirit themed video from May 17, 2009.

Do you ever get the chance to look back in time, for laughs, for posterity, for memories?

Our Church community friends lost their beloved daughter, and were advertising a dinner gala, featuring Lou Holtz, to raise money for the foundation they established in their daughter’s memory.

Mine was an unplanned attempt to do something, however small, to help their cause.

Mother Teresa reminds us that if you can’t do great things, do small things with great Love.

55%

One Nation, Under God
One Nation, Under God

Earlier this month, I saw an ABC Evening News report that stated 55% of Americans say the Iraq war wasn’t worth it.

Hindsight is 20/20.

Tough choices surround us.

And sometimes suffocate us.

A leader, right or wrong, must make decisions that no one can predict how it will play out.

Same thing when you do nothing.

Same thing with your own personal responsibility, like I was saying in yesterday’s post, “You Won’t”.

Is Your Vision Compelling?

What If It Was?
What If It Was?

Clutter. It’s everywhere and impacts everyone. I was addressing some of my own last week.

And here is a voice memo I listened to as I was cleaning out files. Have also copied the December 19, 2009 post for another angle.

President Obama & Sobriety 12.19.09

Rarely watching TV, I was captivated the other night when Charlie Gibson was interviewing United States President, Barack Obama, on the ABC Evening News.

The one word that really made me put things into perspective, was a word the President Obama used to describe how the decision to send US troops to Afghanistan was different from other critical US policy decisions.

Sobriety.

President Obama spoke of a certain level of sobriety that was needed on that particular decision. He said it was the one decision that was different from all the others. I paraphrase here, to illustrate the magnitude:

“Bailing out the auto industry or the financial system is one thing. But picturing Arlington Cemetery, with a mother, sitting in the rain, in front of a tombstone…..”

Thank Goodness It’s Monday

Each Monday, the traditional work week begins. And in the 27 years I’ve been with my current (Fortune 100) employer, I’ve never had a traditional schedule.

So I get it.

Not everyone works 9-5, M-F.

In fact, I worked this past Saturday AND Sunday, far away from home to top it off.

Twenty-seven years.

And my wife, she’s worked for the same Fortune 100 organization as me.

She’s had weekends off for 26 years.

Twenty-six years.

Whatever day your “Monday” is, find the blessings in it.

Because if you don’t, who will? Someone else? Doubtful.
