Consistently attacked by a busy schedule?

Hang glider failure
On ABC Evening News with David Muir last night, a report of a tourist mishap during a Swiss Alps hang gliding flight.

Hang glider failure
The pilot failed to strap the tourist to the hang glider. It took a while until the pilot could land the aircraft. The tourist broke his wrist on the fall and tore his bicep – how he hung on for so long is a miracle. They were at heights that had he lost his grip he would have died. Was the pilot in a hurry?

The drive to do good is consistently attacked by the pressure and stress of a busy schedule.

It is infinitely easier to succumb to this daily pressure using the three main human go-to responses to reduce or eliminate the friction (pain).

Distraction, entertainment, and medication.

This becomes a habit quickly.

Be careful.

Better to fight it while the fire is small than after it has become a raging wildfire.

Chain breaker (music video)

Chain breaker.

Pain taker.

Way maker.

Yesterday’s sermon was awesome.

Probably because we sat about four rows back.

That, and the fact that Father John had just returned from Rome.

January 24 he put a gun in his mouth

jeff noel slogan think differently
Love how Disney Institute has adopted my business tag-line .think .differently (see the darker text near the bottom)

January 24 (today), in 2013, he put a gun in his mouth.

He was at his work desk.

He sent an email to dozens of people just before he took his life.

Received his email the minute he hit enter.

i called him immediately.

Thought it was some stupid joke.

After the first ring, i hung up.

“What if he’s not joking?”

Hell is real and no one is immune.

After four years, i just feel compelled this morning to write this – bad things happen to good people.

The beauty of daily writing (for 3,200+ consecutive days) is that it’s healthy in a way i never knew when i did not write..

There is no email subscription option on my blogs, no place to comment, and i don’t actively recommend these personal blogs to anyone.

Even though his letter clearly stated why Scott did this, we will never understand Scott’s why.

Wake up calls are a gift, as painful as they are

Homeowner swimming pool
Teenager’s iPhone 6 at the bottom of the Family swimming pool.

Wake up calls are a gift if we choose to thrive instead of survive.

Most teens are struggling (like most adults) to find their way.

And in our pain, we look for (temporary) relief.

This is the root cause of addiction.

Tough love is called for.

With ourselves.

With the people we love.

The timing is often spontaneous.

Last night i threw our son’s iPhone 6 into the pool. The photo above was taken a few minutes ago; the morning after.

We miss you Cooper

Stuffed Teddy Bear and Hedge Hog at Beach

One year ago today, on a Sunday at 6am, Cooper and i drove an hour to the 24-hour emergency vet near Sanibel Island we found using Google.

Twenty-four hours later, Cooper took his last breath.

On last week’s trip i took Jack the Bear and Cooper’s favorite, the Hedgehog.
